미국 캘리포니아에서 태어나 퍼모나 대학교를 졸업했다. '뉴욕타임스' 베스트셀러 작가로, 그의 작품은 칼데콧 아너 상, E. B. 화이트 Read Aloud 상, 보스턴 글로브 혼 북 상 등을 받았다. 지은 책으로 《세모》, 《네모》, 《동그라미》, 《샘과 데이브가 땅을 팠어요》, 《늑대와 오리와 생쥐》, 《왜냐면 말이지…》 등이 있다. 지금은 미국 캘리포니아주 오클랜드에 살고 있다.
